This world map shades the 50 most populous countries by their share of the world population, in per cent. Countries with a larger share are shaded darker blue; countries not in the list are left unshaded.

China and India stand far apart from every other country, holding 18.47% and 17.7% of the world population respectively — together more than a third of all people on Earth.

The United States follows at 4.25%, then Indonesia at 3.51%, Pakistan at 2.83%, Brazil at 2.73%, Nigeria at 2.64%, Bangladesh at 2.11%, Russia at 1.87% and Mexico at 1.65%. These ten countries together account for 57.76% of the world population.

Of the remaining 40 countries, only Japan (1.62%), Ethiopia (1.47%), the Philippines (1.41%), Egypt (1.31%), Vietnam (1.25%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (1.15%), Turkey (1.08%), Iran (1.08%) and Germany (1.07%) hold more than 1% each. The smallest shares on the map belong to Ghana and Mozambique (0.4% each), Yemen (0.38%), Nepal (0.37%) and Venezuela (0.36%).

Overall, the 50 countries shown are home to 86.78% of the world population, with the largest concentrations in South and East Asia.
